Land Clearing

From overgrown to usable

Land clearing is hard, physical work, and it's the first step for a lot of other projects — a new house, a shop, a driveway, or just getting a piece of property back under control.

Every piece of land is different. Some lots are mostly brush and vines. Some are thick with pines and hardwood saplings. Some have decades of debris hidden in the undergrowth. We walk it with you first, mark what stays and what goes, and give you a scope that fits the ground.

When we're done, you get a site that's cleaned up — not just knocked down. And because we also run Los Bros Lawns, we can help keep it that way.

Worth knowing

Before we clear: what to know

A little planning up front saves money and headaches on any clearing job.

  • Know your linesWe clear to your property lines, so it helps to know where they are. If the lines are uncertain, a survey before clearing is worth it.
  • Utilities get marked firstBefore any digging or stump removal, underground utilities are located through NC 811.
  • Mark what staysGood longleaf pines, shade trees and anything with sentimental value get flagged before equipment goes in.
  • Rules can applyIn North Carolina, disturbing an acre or more generally requires an approved erosion and sediment control plan, and some towns and HOAs have their own tree and clearing rules. We'll flag anything we know applies.
  • Where the debris goesHauling off, piling for later, or other options — it depends on the site and your plans. The approach is spelled out in your estimate.
  • What comes nextIf the land is being cleared for a house, driveway or slab, tell us. We'll leave the site in the right condition for the next step.

Keep-trees and boundaries are flagged, and we agree on what gets cleared.

  3. Utility locate

Underground utilities are marked before we disturb the ground.

  4. Clearing

Brush, undergrowth and trees in the clearing area are removed.

  5. Stumps & roots

Stumps are ground or removed based on what the ground will be used for.

  6. Debris handling

Debris is hauled off or handled as agreed in the estimate.

  7. Grade & clean up

Rough grading where needed and a final cleanup so the site is ready for what's next.

FAQ

Land Clearing questions, answered

Don't see your question? Ask us directly — we're happy to talk it through.

How much does land clearing cost?

It depends on the size of the area, how dense the growth is, the size of the trees, how many stumps need to come out, site access, and what happens with the debris. After a site walk, you'll get a written estimate for your property.

Do I need a permit to clear my land?

It depends on the size of the job and where it is. In North Carolina, land-disturbing activity of an acre or more generally requires an approved erosion and sediment control plan, and some towns, counties and HOAs have their own rules. We'll point out what we know applies to your property.

Can you leave certain trees standing?

Yes. We walk the property with you first and flag the trees you want to keep, then work around them.

Should stumps be ground or removed?

If the area will be lawn or landscaping, grinding is usually enough. If you're building, pouring concrete or grading, stumps and major roots typically need to come out completely. We'll recommend what fits your plans.

Can you prep the site for a driveway or building after clearing?

Yes. We can clear, rough grade and prep the site, and our concrete crew can pour the driveway, slab or pad.

Can you keep the property maintained after it's cleared?

Yes — through Los Bros Lawns, we can set up mowing and upkeep so the property doesn't grow back in.
